Get kids excited for Halloween with these spooky bat and spider cookies in an air fryer oven. Served with "squashed flies" made from chocolate chips, they'll be a hit!

Raw material

150g butter, softened
50 g caster sugar
100g light brown fondant
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg
250g plain flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
100g milk or dark chocolate chips

Decorate

60g dark chocolate, melted
60g royal sugar, mixed with 2 tsp water
20 maltose
5 cream-filled chocolate-filled cookies
10 caramel chocolate bars

step 1
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs and whisk again to combine. Stir flour and baking powder with a wooden spoon until dough is firm, then add chocolate chips.

Step 2
Divide dough into 20 pieces and roll into balls. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet well spaced to allow room to spread (you may need to bake in batches). Gently press the tops of the cookies down with the palm of your hand or the bottom of the glass. Set the HYSapientia air fryer oven to 180 degrees and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until golden around the edges, then cool on a baking sheet for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.

Step 3
To make spider cookies, place 10 cooled cookies in front of you. Scoop the melted chocolate into one piping bag, the royal icing into another piping bag, and cut off the ends with scissors. Spread a little royal icing on the back of both Maltesers and line them up on one of the cookies to form the spider's head and body. Repeat for the remaining nine cookies and the rest of the maltose. Pipe eight spider legs around the spider's body with chocolate. Apply two small dots of royal icing on the head to form the eyes, then very small chocolate dots on the eyes to form the pupils. If you wish, you can decorate the body with royal icing.

Step 4
To make the bat cookies, place the remaining 10 cookies in front of you. Separate the buttercream-filled chocolate chip cookies and carefully scrape the buttercream from the chocolate chip cookie pieces. Use a small serrated knife to cut chocolate chip cookie slices into semicircles. Use royal icing to glue the caramel-filled chocolate to the center of each cooled cookie, then use a little bit more to glue the chocolate cookie half circle to the sides to make the bat wings. Set eyes on chocolate using royal icing and melted chocolate.
